Refurbishment of Museum
Dunbar Town House dates from around 1650. The building has recently benefited from the Townscape Heritage Initiative with repairs to the roof, stonework, re-pointing in lime mortar and a final re-harling and limewashing. The building has been put back to its appearance before previous improvements were carried out around 1911, when the harling which originally covered the building was removed. The re-instatement of this harling is vital to protect the very soft red sandstone of which the building is constructed.
Further refurbishment plans are underway for inside the building to create a larger exhibition space, a community and education room, access to upper floors via a lift and a local history exhibition room and search room.
Further updates will be made available on this website, in local press and through events in the local area as the project develops, and there will also be opportunities for members of the public to get involved.
